Shorthand is a free-genre band based in Delhi. The four-piece band enjoys exploring and creating music, taking inspiration from funk, progressive rock, jazz and blues. Shorthand has performed at and won several college festivals in Delhi in the last year, and has currently begun working on recording an album.
Abhinav Srikant (guitarist)
Abhinav is a self-taught guitarist who enjoys writing music in a diverse array of genres like progressive rock, funk, jazz and metal. He describes song-writing as his forte; he thrives at composing unique chord progressions and melodies and employing time signature manipulations to melodic effect.
Prithvi Iyer (drummer)
Prithvi Iyer has been playing drums for the past eight years and enjoys a variety of musical genres including progressive rock, blues and funk. Creating thought-out and dynamic grooves that compliment each piece is his primary goal as a drummer. He has spent a large part of his life playing gigs with a few bands in Bombay, and now plays for Shorthand. Artists like Gavin Harrison, Carter Beuford and Marco Minnemann have inspired him to pursue the drums as his mode of expression.
Govind Narayan (bassist)
Govind Narayan has been playing the guitar since he was twelve years old. His playing style, just like his influences, has changed over the years from heavy driven metal to groovy blues rhythm patterns. He likes to think of himself as a guitar player who plays bass, and his melodic basslines reflect this. He is an enthusiastic performer who feels entirely like himself only when he is on stage.
Sreya Muthukumar (vocalist)
Sreya Muthukumar began her training in music at the age of 5, learning Carnatic classical music for about 9 years. She then began to explore genres like jazz, blues and rock, and has recently begun training in Dhrupad music as well. She enjoys setting poetry to music in her free time, and loves performing live.
