Mukesh Sharma
Mukesh Sharma is India’s leading exponent of Sarod. His highly versatile and esthetic perception of the Sarod has enabled him to touch most profound depths of his instrument. His purity of style, uniqueness of imagination with his brilliant technique in which he blends the elements of “Gayaki i_e Vocal rendering and “Layakari” i_e Instrumental rhythmic patterns, make his recitals enchanting.
The outstanding feature of his rendering is that it not only reflects the musician’s mood and his nuances but also adds to the overall power and effect of the ragas. His music is filled with melodic command and rhythmic complexity making for an experience that is incomparably sweet, melancholic and joyous.
His father late Pandit Rasik Bihari Lal was an eminent Sarod artist. A disciple of great Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Mukesh had his initial training from late Pt Suprabhat Paul, late Dr. Ramaballabh Mishra and Pt. Birju Maharaj.
He has received a senior fellowship from the ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
Mukesh Sharma has created an enviable niche for himself in the field of fusion music and has worked with various musicians from world over.
He has performed creditably at various major concerts in India, France, Germany, Spain, UK, Latvia, Russia, Mauritius, Reunion Island, Singapore, Bangladesh, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Holland, Cyprus, USA, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and UAE.
His CD records entitled "India Calling”, “Raga Miyan Malhar” and "The Call of Horizons" have been released in Germany, France and Holland.
Arshad Khan
Hailing from a music lovers family of Farukhabad Gharana, Arshad Khan is well known tabla player of India. He initiated his childhood taleem of tabla at the age of four under his uncle Ustad Rashid Mustafa Thirakwa and is the grandson of the legendary tabla maestro late Padma Bushan Ustad Ahmed Jaan Thirakwa Khan Sahib.
Representing the fifth generation of his family, Arshad has been vibrantly keeping his tradition alive by developing his own unique style of Tabla playing which comprises various Gharanas namely Delhi,Purab,Farukhabad,Ajrara,Punjab, Banaras which is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity founded in formidable knowledge and study. His salient qualities comprise sweet melodies sound production and tayyari. Arshad is excellent in solo as well as a reliable accompanist for instruments and vocal music. Having an “A” grade from AIR, has been regularly performing at the All Indian Radio (AIR) & TV and is on the panel of ICCR as performing artiste.
He has performed nationwide and in several countries; and has accompanied a number of great artistes including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ustad Rais Khan, Pt. Mukesh Sharma, Dr. Sonal mansingh, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Ghulam Ali, Padmashree Pankaj Udhas, Anup Jalota, Queen of Ghazal Farida Khanam, Ahmed Mohammad hussain, Hari Haran, Chandan Das, Peenaz Masani,Bhupender Mitali etc.Arshad Khan released a solo album of his,titled “A Tradition Continued” last year which has received very encouraging response from the music world. He was awarded the NYCA Youth National award by the Navyug Youth Cultural Association, New Delhi being the youth artiste of the year 2005-06.
Mehfil-e Honär is a monthly performance series that showcases independent artists from various art disciplines, such as visual arts, fine arts, and plastic arts. The event prioritizes the art and artist, with the audience requested to stay silent during the performances. Curated by Sina Fakhroddin, the initiative aims to promote and provide a platform for independent artists to connect with the audience on a deeper level, and create a culture of appreciation and respect for their craft. The vision is to impact the culture of live music venues in Delhi and India towards a more sensitive space for artists.
