Second Sight
Second Sight is the sonically kaleidoscopic, lyrically rich brainchild of Anusha Ramasubramoney and Pushkar Srivatsal.
Reflecting the influence of alternative soul, RnB, latin jazz, and acoustic folk, Second Sight's sound takes different forms - it ranges from sparse and poetic, to heavily groove centric, and is fiercely driven by storytelling. Formed in late 2015, when Anusha and Pushkar met at music school, Second Sight completes its outfit with Ralph Menezes on bass, Jigar Shah on drums, and Jayakrishnan Unnithan on keys.
Second Sight released their debut full length album, Coral, in November 2021. The
album is set on a template of alternative RnB, but hops genres to a cappella, to a
Mexican Bolero, to a blues funk ballad, and to hip hop as well. Although the songs
are very diverse, they are tied together by the vocal arrangements, weaving together an eclectic sonic tapestry. “Lyrics have always been paramount to our music, and in
Coral, we explore how we feel about climate change, homophobia, social media
comment wars, imbalanced relationships, and mental health”, says Anusha
Ramasubramoney.
Second Sight released their 4 track, debut EP, The Violet Hour, in October 2018. In
support of their debut EP, the duo went on a multi-city tour in association with LVNG
in November 2018 and had a sold-out launch show at G5A Foundation for
Contemporary Culture.Second Sight has played at various venues across India, such as The Piano Man Jazz Cafe, Taj Mahal Palace and The Quarter. They’ve also been a part of multiple Sofar Sounds gigs (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai), the 12th edition of Control Alt Delete Festival, and the 7th edition of The Gig Week at Mumbai.
Furthermore, Second Sight looks to incorporate other forms of art, such as visual art, poetry and dance, in their music, to make their performance a multifaceted
experience.
